Multiple versions of Kumara Rama?
Multiple movies based on the same storyline are not unusual
in Kannada film history. During 1955, a devotional film 'Shivasharane
Nambiyakka' was produced and directed by Shankar Singh (Mahatma
Pictures) while the same was produced by B.R. Panthalu (1955)
and was titled as 'Shivasharane Nambekka'! If we look at the
recent past, both Yarado Duddu Yallamana Jatre and Ananda
Nilaya shared the same story. Now its the story of Kumara
Rama, a king of Vijayanagara dynasty that is attracting multiple
filmmakers. There are also folk stories based on this character.
Both director Nagabharana and director Bhargava are all set
to role out their versions of the movies based on Kumara Rama.
Bhargava is directing Kumara Rama for M.S. Ramaiah Chitralaya
starring Shivarajkumar and is expected to role soon after
inauspicious Ashada while Bharana is directing the same for
K.C.N. Gowda (KCN Productions). Though the script was ready
a year back, Bharana is yet to decide the star cast. Prakash
Rai would suite the character of Kumara Rama according to
Bharana. We can recall that Nagabharana's Singaravva too had
grabbed the attention of more than one producer. Rockline
Venkatesh and K.S.L. Swamy (Ravi) jointly wanted to produce
this movie but much before their execution, it was produced
by Sandesh Nagaraj and Bharana directed this award winner.
Incidentally, Dr. Rajkumar was supposed to play the role of Kumara Rama almost 30 years back! And hence, this movie has a special significance for Shivarajkumar. So if progressed without any disruption, this movie is going to be a neat entertainer.
