Give
quality films with good taste - Uncle Lokanath
Everyone
out there knows that there is a drastic fall in quality film
in Kannada from past several years. Hardly 3 to 4% of the
total production is turning out to be successful movies. We
have reached the extent where people from other filmdom are
saying 'you have the resources and facilities. We give you
quality films using them'! An example for this is the recently
launched Kannada film Arya by well-known Malayalam director
Shyam Prasad. Downturn of Kannada film industry is not only
reducing the values and image of Kannada films in regional
and National level but also hurting a genuine well-wishers
of the industry. Well-known as Uncle in Kannada filmdom Lokanath
expressed his sad feeling and cautioned about this dangerous
trend cultivated off late.
"Kannada
filmdom used to follow certain principles. Used to produce
films for the whole family to suite all age group. Industry
had good name and fame in National level. If a person wants
to become a director, he used to put 25-30 years of hard work
as assistant and such ripen individuals then direct on their
own. People after gaining immense experience of story writing,
used to write for films. But today trend has changed. Today's
clap boy becomes director overnight. Our creativity and originalities
have disappeared. Films are being made by picking bits and
pieces from different language films. I'm not saying not to
watch other films. Watch. Learn new things. Adapt good things.
But that is not all. Develop your individualism. A few days
back I was watching a Kannada film F-R-I-E-N-D-S. This was
a box office hit. But is that what people like you and me
can watch? The producers obviously want their money back.
But such films which demonstrates and develops bad taste in
public are not only the way to get their money needs to be
convinced through the success of good films. People call me
for acting even today and I act too. But I'm nowhere seen
when its released! Why waste thousands of feet of films this
way? I'm not targeting anyone in specific but just expressing
my heart. Whether you are a producer or a director, make use
of your hard earned money in right way. If you want to seriously
step into direction, do proper homework. Then come to direction.
Produce quality films with good taste."
A veteran with several decades of theater and film experience
burst out with real facts of today's Kannada cinema. Though
it sounds very bitter, his words and advices came from years
of experience applicable to every individual of film industry.
If we want to improve, is high time to adapt the proven principles
and react to the caution. Only such changes for the betterment
can bring the glory back to Kannada film industry.
