Regulations to control Non-Kannada Film in Karnataka
In a short period after taking charge as President of Karnataka
Film Chambers of Commerce Mr. S. Ramesh has made some major
decisions for the improvement of Kannada Films. Addressing
a press meet yesterday Mr. Ramesh said "Other language producers
can have only four prints of their films to screen them
in eight theaters across the state. Hindi films can have
one more to be screened at Davangere".
This move certainly impacts the theater owners but keeping
the betterment of Kannada Film Industry in view, this step
is very much needed in current situation. Till now to encourage
Kannada Films, other language films were supposed to be
screened only after two weeks of their release in their
respective states. But it was not implemented successfully;
said Ramesh. A High Power committee of 38 members has been
formed to regulate the screening of other language films
in the state. This committee consists of Parvathamma Rajkumar,
Rockline Venkatesh, Govindraj, Sa.Ra. Govindu, Jaggesh,
current president of the chamber, secretary etc.
Here are the highlights of the decisions of the committee:
-
Non-Kannada
film producers are permitted only for four prints of their
films and can be screened in eight theaters across the
state simultaneously. However, in exceptional cases, two
more prints will be permitted with additional fees of
Rs. 25,000 for the construction of KFCC's new building
-
Hindi
films can have one more print (five) to be screened in
Davangere
-
To
avoid the competition to screen Kannada films, only two
films will be permitted per week. During holidays one
more (totally three) film will be permitted.
-
Need
to produce the censor certificate of 100% exemption to
the chambers and theaters will be allocated based on first
come first served basis.
-
KFCC
suggested that if collection of any film is less than
Rs 17.5 thousand in any theater, then screening of that
film should be stopped there.
Mr.
Ramesh said, arrangements will be made to screen 11 films
that are ready to release but waiting for theaters. New building
of KFCC will commence from coming Sankranthi. Chief Minister
S.M. Krishna had agreed for ground breaking pooja for the
proposed new building of KFCC at a cost of Rs. 3.25 crore.
Association of artists will perform orchestra to raise fund
for the building. Construction of this new building is expected
to complete by mid of the year 2003.
Being Kannadigas, lets welcome this move of the chambers and
encourage our film industry.
