  Singaravva & Stumble won the National Film Awards

Actress Prema  in film SingaravvaHere is one more feather to Kannada films in the form of Best Regional Film in 50th National Film Awards. 'Singaravva' directed by T.S. Nagabharana has won the Best Regional Film Award this year. Chairman of the jury Prakash Jha announced this in Delhi on Saturday, July 26th.

Film Singaravva, directed by T.S. Nagabharan is based on the novel Singaravva Matthu Aramane written by well-known novelist and stage person Dr. Chandrashekhar Kambar. This film revolves around a woman who raises her voice against a bureaucrat and finds the solution in her own way. Prema plays the lead role of Singaravva - the kind of role she wanted act from many years. Under the banner of Sandesh Combines, Satish Swami has produced the film while C. Ashwath has scored the music. Film has B.C. Gaurishankar's cinematography and Gopal Vajapayi's lyrics and dialogs. Avinash, Shivadhwaj, Sharath Lohitashwa, Akhila etc are among the cast. Singaravva was well anticipated to get nomination for this year's film award and has succeeded in bringing that pride to Karnataka.

Ananthgan and Suhasini in StumbleAnother silverlining for Karnataka is in the form of Prakash Belawadi's Stumble which won the best English film award.

The award for best director went to Aparna Sen for Mr And Mrs Iyer while Aparna's daughter Konkona Sen Sharma walked away with the Best Actress award for the same film. The Nargis Dutt Award for National Integration also went to Mr and Mrs Iyer.

The award for the best popular film went to Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Devdas with a total of five awards including best art direction (Nitin Chandrakant Desai) and best costume design (Neta Lulla, Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla), best choreography (Saroj Khan) and best female background singer (Shreya Ghoyel).

Devgan had bagged his first national award for best actor in film The legend of Bhagath Singh. Udit Narayan won the best singer award. Actress Raakhee won the best supporting actress award for her role in Shubho Mahurat while Chandrashekhar won the best supporting award for the Tamil film Nanba Nanba. Shweta Prasad, who had played the twins in the Hindi film Makdee, and Keertana who acted in Kannathil Muthamittal won the best child star awards.

Among South Indian films apart from Singaravva, A R Rahman's song and background score in Tamil film Kannathil Muthamittal fetched him the award for Best Music Direction.
