Anu is now Ananya!
Women all over the world have begun to make their presence felt in yet another field that had been dominated by men - film directing. Be it Sofia Coppola from the US or Lina Wertmüller from Italy, Meera Nair or our own Kavita Lankesh - female directors are flowering though their ratio is meager 4% worldwide!
Women have had greater difficulty working their way up to directorship, where a director must orchestrate a larger staff of hundreds of people. In the past few years, however, several women have been making headway in this field. If we look at Kannada film industry, apart from Kavita Lankesh, the other name comes to mind is Prema Karanth and recently Arati. The latest addition to the list is Dr. H. Girijamma, a popular gynecologist from Bangalore. Though a doctor by profession, she is a good writer. Ambarish starrer Megha Mandara was based on Girija's novel. She has directed several TV serials and tele-films. And now she is all set to direct a feature film 'Ananya'.
Bubbly lady Anu Prabhakar plays the lead role in this film while Rajan, a veteran cinematographer is behind the camera and Hamsalekha is scoring the music for this debut production of Mallikarjunaiah. Though more information about this project is not let out, if we look at the top class technicians being part of this project, one can predict it to be a class movie. Ananya is launching shortly.
