Special Jury Award to Nayi Neralu
Girish
Kasaravalli's Nayi Neralu has won the Special Jury Award at
Osian's Cinefan 8th Festival of Asian Cinema that was held
in New Delhi on 14-23 July 2006. Interestingly, a Tulu film
'Suddha' directed by Balakrishna P. N. has bagged the Best
Film award in the Indian Competition section. The awards were
announced by the organizers couple of minutes ago.
The four-time Golden Lotus award winner, director Girish Kasaravalli
known for his penchant to adopt published literary works for
his celluloid aesthetics is in news for his latest movie Nayi
Neralu produced by Abhishek Patil and Basant Kumar Patil (Basant
Productions). Based on Dr. S.L.
Bhyrappa's novel, this movie is an attempt to capture the
inversion of social values held by three different generations
- a mother for whom only faith is essential, the daughter
for whom its her living experiences and the granddaughter
who swears by rational thinking.
A Total of ten films - eight Indian and one each from Indonesia
and Saudi Arabia had their world premieres at this film festival
and Nayi Neralu was in the Indian Competition section. Osian's
Cinefan Festival of Asian Cinema has singularly changed the
way festivals are conducted in India and it deserves a special
mention. Of all the small festivals that have cropped in the
past decade like the Calcutta festival, Mumbai fest and many
others have not managed to generated so much interest from
around the world particularly in Asia like this one organized
by Messrs Nevile Tuli and Aruna Vasudev.
We at viggy.com take this opportunity to congratulate the
Nayi Neralu team and we are also delighted to announce the
official website www.nayineralu.com
developed exclusively by viggy.com.
