Karnataka State Film Award 2001-02
Long
awaited, Karnataka State Film Award 2001-02, which
also had made controversial news in the recent past, was organized
at Ambedkar Bhavan this evening (January 20th). Three key awards - Dr. Rajkumar Award to Prathima
Devi Shankar Singh for her service in theater and film
world, Puttanna Kanagal Award to veteran director M.S.
Rajshekhar and Lifetime Achievement Award to senior
actor and theater person Rajanand were presented by
Karnataka Chief Minister Sri S.M. Krishna.
Chief Minister who was supposed to rush to attend World Economy Forum addressed the gathering expressing his concerns
towards the decreasing value of cinema these days. "We
are lacking in quality films of good taste, to reflect the
culture and social concerns. How
far this effective medium is being used to produce a creative
film still remains as a big question. Entertainment is not
just the objective of this channel. We have good talents and
great literature but need to use them appropriately to produce
good films" said Mr. Krishna. "We have hiked the
subsidy for Kannada films to Rs 10 lakh per film but is limited
only for good quality films which reflect our social concerns
and culture." he added.
Later he released the souvenir containing all award winners.
Information Minister Kagod Timmappa distributed rest
of the awards. President of KFCC (Karnataka Film Chamber of
Commerce) Mr. S. Ramesh requested the government to
bring back the Rs 5 lakh subsidy to all Kannada films.
