Kaashi - film review
As
the title goes, Kashi is indeed a village youth who migrates
to city with his brother. But that is only to start with and
rest of the story revolves within the city. Since Saiprakash
is the director, woes and cries are an obvious expectation
but contrarily, you can see a balanced act by the director
with humor, sentiment and action. Its Sudeep who carries the
whole film on his shoulder and as usual, he shines be it the
comedy or sentiment or action scenes.
Kashi is a simple story of a youth hailing from a village
and he loses his only brother for the mistake of falling in
love with the daughter of a goon. Circumstances forces Kashi
to face the goons and the odds courageously.
Nothing invigorating as far as the story goes. What is notable
is the splendid performance by Sudeep in all areas. Unlike
in Kalasipalya and Ayya, director and the producer were not
keen on capitalizing on Rakshita's 'glamour' but her performance,
which she managed effectively. Producer N. Kumar once again
winded the unfinished product in a hurry. The results are
seen on the screens because 'screens never lie'! Kashi would
have been a great commercial flick if it was handled well
both technically and during postproduction. No DTS, no proper
rerecording, no importance for locations - what else you need
to spoil a film? Music director Koti made his life easier
by refining some of his old tunes! Still Kashi is watchable
for Sudeep's acting and Rakshitha's comical performance as
a TV anchor. Their comeback after 'Dhum' is refreshing. Kashi
is a must see film for Sudeep fans.
