Nammanna - film review
Never
judge a book by its cover. Looks can be quite illusory! Nammanna,
remake of Tamil movie Aanna is just a sample. Problem with
Nammanna lies in the fact that the concept is too old and
is overused. It has the soul of an old film in the body of
a new team! No doubt, every character here has its significance,
but the film lacks the grip to keep you engaged.
If
you look at the flipside, it's a story of a young man who
fights against the odds of the society. Such concepts and
stories exist forever and hence is not dated! However, there
is a similarity between Sudeep's previous movie Kashi from
village and Nammanna. Kaashi comes from a village with his
younger brother with loads of dreams. In Nammanna, Muttanna
comes from jungle departing from his tribal community. In
both the films, a silent hero turns violent after the brutal
murder of his younger brother.
Muttanna leaves the forest under a strange circumstance and
heads towards the city. This innocent guy starts his new life
in the city. With the help of a neighboring teacher his younger
brother gets an admission to a school. In the mean while Muttanna
falls in love with the teacher. While life is going smooth,
fate plays its card. His brother becomes an eyewitness for
a murder and the rival group puts an end to his life. From
here onwards, innocent Muttanna turns violent and moves on
to take revenge on all the culprits and anti social elements.
And Muttanna becomes Nammanna!
Sudeep is the heart and soul of the film. His appearance in
three different getup thrills the fans and he is at his usual
best. The actor delivers a flawless performance yet again.
You won't find anything unusual from director N. Shankar.
Gurukiran has created a remix song from 'Tunturu…' of Amrutha
Varshini. Two of the supporting artists are from other language
and hence you can see the lip synch problem. Avinash and Sadhu
Kokila have done their best. Anjali Javeri is the right fit
for her role while Flora Shiny, the second heroine shines
too particularly in fights! Money spend on this project is
seen on the screen in terms of richness and quality.
