'Boyfriend' - film directed by Jana having Rati and Dilip in the lead

Remember the Hindi film 'Girl Friend' that created a lot of hot waves recently? It is pretty commons to see people going after the success or 'news' created by such movies and launch new project that sounds similar. So people may think the new Kannada flick 'Boyfriend' is a derivation of the Hindi movie Girl Friend. But it is not. This film was launched almost a year back during November last year. Halted after a few days of shoot, Boyfriend is back on track again now. Directed by Janardhan (Jana), this film is in full swing at Abbaiah Naidu Studio. Jana is not new to direction but yes, this is his debut film as an independent director. His television serial 'Mugila Mallige' had received very good responses. As a matter of fact, more or less the entire team of Boyfriend is new to silver screen with a lot of freshness in the movie. This is the debut production for producer Shashidhar and Pavitra Jayaram. Though she acted in Tamil movies, for this bubbly, cute heroine Rathi Kannada filmdom is new. She is pretty fluent in Kannada as she is rooted here. This is the debut film as a hero for next-door boy Dilip Raj, who was well talked about for his brilliant performance in many television serials like Ardha Sathya, Preethigagi, Kumkuma Bhagya and so on.

On the day of muhurath, the same Dilip while talking to media had said "I got a small role in this film". There is a saying in Kannada - 'hittala gida maddalla'; and it sounded very real looking at the producers and the director who were searching for a new hero while having such talented actor Dilip next to them! In fact, many journalists who have seen his acting capabilities recommended Dilip for lead role. And many had written about our own people not encouraging local talents including viggy.com! Believe it or not - these articles made all the magic; the producers and director of Boyfriend decided to have Dilip in the lead! Dilip who was comfortable with dancing now has learnt fighting too to be qualified as a true hero!

Though it was mounted during last November, it didn't progress much. Reason? Busy actress Rathi. She wanted to finish a Telugu film that was signed prior to Boyfriend. However, all the songs are done for Boyfriend and as per the current schedule, they want to finish shooting part by July 27 and release by August 27. If you don't have a boyfriend or a girlfriend, it's a shame on you thinks today's college crowed! So what is the limit of this 'friendship' is the base for this movie. "Boyfriend is a complete mass film" says the director Jana. It has all the ingredients of a typical commercial movie from songs to fights to dance. Abhishri, daughter of dancer Anurdha will be seen in an item number. Film has music by Indra with his own lyrics. Kavitha, Mukyamanthri Chandru, Rangayana Raghu, Padma Vasanthi etc are part of the cast group.
