Priyanka and Shivarajkumar in film Rowdy Aliya
  Rowdy Aliya - film review

Rowdy Aliya of Shivarajkumar that hit the screen this week was the first of his this year. Though is a new film, from all perspective, Rowdy Aliya is nothing but Gadibidi Aliya Part 2. The same old concept of infatuated mother-in-law and witty son-in-law who teaches a lesson to his 'Atthe' plus tons of masala and costume styles imported from neighboring states ('Alludu' series) to make Rowdy Aliya a typical commercial movie.

Director Sai Prakash undoubtedly has given hit films in the past. But this flick should have been screened at least 10-15 years back to call it a good cinema. People are tired of such highly exaggerated, hypothetical films filled with everything that is far from entertainment and reality. Look at a few samples:

Case One: Principal of the college telephones Rani (Priyanka), daughter of the trusty of that college Malini Devi (Jayamala) to get her permission to start the class everyday!

Case Two: A rich landlord who looses everything goes to London and turns millionaire. He adapts the college that was headed by Malini Devi! What he does in London is not shown. Otherwise, Rowdy Aliya would have been a great reference to people to mint money overseas!

Case Three: Arrogant Rani who hates Raja (Shivarajkumar) who is supposed to be a rowdy and a criminal but her husband, at the end leaves her family, luxury and goes out with Raja for cooly. 'Thali' jindabaad!

Case Four: Malini Devi accepts a slum dweller as daughter-in-law just to safeguard herself from people talking cheaply about her.

The list goes on and on. Added to this are the poor editing and over hyped music. Film has seven music directors with popular singers singing the songs, but nothing notable. We can recall the producer M.C. Neha (Anand Audio) talking about producing a good film here. He was expressing his frustration because of the theater problem to screen his film. He was saying, things like this would make the producer think twice before making a Kannada film. But its better not to make such overdosed, obsolete movies we feel. No wonder people who expect quality entertainer say 'we have to think twice before watching a Kannada film'! Of course, comedy never dies but people look for value for their money. At least try for something new, refreshing, entertaining and novel. Gone are those days of celebrating silver jubilee based on star values. One can see the attempt made here to take advantage of popularity of Dr. Rajkumar in many sequences.

There are a few plus in the film though! Hero Shivarajkumar has done his best. Priyanka looks good. Added to this are the comic relief by Doddanna, Sharan and Chaya Singh. But nothing is cherishable and all gone in vain.
